Emberfall Saga
Emberfall Saga is the kind of RPG that respects your thumbs. Combat is turn-based and plays out on a compact grid, so you can map out a whole fight without squinting. Your party of four each has a stance you toggle mid-battle, and switching at the right moment is the difference between a clean win and a slow bleed-out.
The story leans melancholic without getting heavy-handed. You travel between dying hearth-towns trying to reignite old beacons, and the writing gives even minor NPCs a line or two worth reading. I ended up caring about a blacksmith I met for all of three screens.
Progression is generous. You don't grind so much as experiment, since respeccing is cheap and encouraged. On a phone that matters — it means a bad build never traps you for an hour.
What we liked
- Readable grid combat built for small screens
- Low-cost respecs that reward experimenting
- Gorgeous hand-painted town art
